About Instagram reels
Reels are Instagram's short-form vertical format: up to ninety seconds, shot at a 9:16 aspect ratio, and built around a soundtrack as much as the picture. They are delivered as an adaptive stream rather than one finished file, which is why a reel that plays instantly in the app takes a moment to turn into something you can keep.
Why reels need their own tool
A reel is not simply a short video post. The video and the audio usually travel as separate tracks and are combined as you watch, and the same reel is published at several resolutions so the app can switch between them on a weak connection.
